Plumbing Done!

I finished up the plumbing for the powder room and wet bar this weekend. It actually went pretty smoothly.

Here is the powder room sink and toilet spickets.

Here is the wetbar spickets and drains:

Lastly, we finished up the soffit over the bar area. Now, the only framing left are the soffits in the theater and the blocking for drywall on corners.

More Framing Done

Framing is almost complete in the basement. I just have to do the soffits around the theater.
Here is the view from coming downstairs and turning the corner:

On the right is the wine closet, on the left is the hot water heater closet. Not sure what to do with the middle area yet.... it's 5' deep, with the section to the left of the pole 5' wide and the section to the right 4' wide. I was thinking maybe an arcade with a pinball machine and arcade machine in each "slot".
Here is the view down the length of the basement (please excuse the mess):

To the left is the furnace room. The rest of it is open area, with 8' width under the soffit and 8' width outside it. The ceiling height under the soffit is 6'7" and 7'9" outside it.
Here's the view as you turn the corner at the far end to head towards the theater:

On the right where the electrical panel is, is where the wetbar will go. We were thinking narrow cabinets with a countertop and a few stools, then maybe a movie poster to act as the door to the electrical panel.
On the left you can see the door to the bathroom. Across from that is the theater:

Here is the view from the screen wall looking back:

You can see the equipment room off to the left at the back.

Plumbing Started

Last night I started the waste line run from the rough in drain to where the pedestal sink will be in the bathroom.

Next, I'll have to continue the run over to the drain for the wet bar sink. I also need to add the vertical runs for the venting. There will be a vertical run from each sink up to the vent line that is located just outside the bathroom wall next to the electrical panel.
If you look real close in this picture you can see the 1" run I had to make from the laundry room washer overflow basin. The builder never connected the drain line, instead they cut it off at ceiling height and covered it with insulation... luckily I found it.

Lasty, is the Tee that just refuses to seal. It drips about once every 10 minutes. So this weekend, I need to cut it out and replace it. It's very frustrating.

Updated Pics

Well we finally got a wide angle lens for the camera, so we are able to take better shots of the basement and of the rooms. Here are a few updated pics, and I'll post more when we take them.

Here's a picture of the powder room downstairs (the left hand picture). It's almost complete...we still have a few final touches to add around the pipes. The picture on the right is the upstairs hall bath. The paint color came out more blue than it did gray, but i think we are going to stick with it for awhile. We still need to buy a curtain rod, a curtain and curtains for the shower....

Just a few pictures of the foyer, dining room (table has both leaves in it so it's at an angle right now), and the upstairs hallway (the sticky notes are marking the spots on the ceiling that the builder just came and touched up and the family room :)

Gas pipe relocated

Last night we decided to try to move the main gas pipe for the house. We wanted to basically take the last 14 feet of it off and replace it with an elbow to run it into our soffet so it no longer blocked the basement window. The contrator we had come out and take a look said it would be $400, but he gave us the info on what we'd need to do it ourselves.

So we bought the 3/4" galvanized pipe and had home depot cut it to 8' and 4' lengths. Well I went to install it last night and once I was on the ladder I saw we had 1/2" not 3/4". So back to home depot. We got back home and went to install the 8' piece, that went fine. The next piece the contractor told us would need to be 2'.... turns out that was too short, we'd need a 5' piece. I also saw that we could cut the 8' piece back to 4' and open the window area up more... back to home depot. We got back with the right pieces and went to install them... I couldn't get the 90 degree elbows on though.. the guy at home depot threaded them wrong. So ok, back to home depot. We finally get back home around 10pm and get everything installed, hung, supported, labeled etc. Turned that gas on (left the bilco/windows open just in case) smelt around for a while to make sure no gas was leaking and went to bed.

Here are two pictures of where the gas pipe ran before we relocated it. As you can see, right in front of the window.

Here is the after:

Here is the first elbow of the 4' piece we added in. On the left you can see the T that goes up to the kitchen.

Here is where the pipe comes out on the other side of the hvac, and then runs down the soffit to the flex line.

Here's the shutoff valve between the hard pipe and flex pipe. The flex pipe runs upstairs to the laundry room (dryer is electric, but there's a gas option in the room).

This is the piping for the fireplace. I added a 90 degree elbow and ran it along the back cement wall. The basement wall will go in front of it. This way the soffet will need to "bump" out a bit to enclose the shutoff valve, but won't need to extend 2' to cover the gas line.

We also made a bit more progress on the soffits:

Here is another obstacle for tonight. The smoke detector is in the way of the soffit. Unfortunately, it's tied into 120v power on the same circuit as the lights, so I'll have to move it in the dark (or at least sunlight from the windows) and it's also tied into low voltage lines that connect all the fire alarms in the house together, so I can only move it in one direction. I'll either put it in the furnace room or the theater, not sure which yet.

Walls all done, plumbing moves all done, starting soffets

I finished putting up the rest of the walls while theresa was away this weekend. Yesterday I also finished moving the cold water pipe for the outside spicket. Turns out we must have left the faucet off with water in it over the winter, because the shut off valve was busted. So I had to replace that also.

I had a contrator come out to give an estimate on how much it would cost to move the gas pipe I wanted moved.... he said he could do it in one hour and it would be $400 ... holy cow. So I went to home depot and picked up the $20 worth of parts and I'll hopefully do that today. With any luck, the house will still be standing tomorrow.
Here are the water pipes I had to move. Before, they ran under the beam, now they run through it. I'll have to have an access panel through the drywall to get to the valve.
Here is the beginning of the soffet around the hvac. This is a 6' run, the rest will be 2" higher and run the rest of the length of the basement. At first, I was planning to go the lower height all the way across instead of just the 6' so it would look uniform, but then I began thinking with the low ceiling height every inch would be nice to have.

This is the wine closet. It will be 5'x5'. You can see there is still a flex duct hanging down that needs to be moved closer to the I-beam and then soffeted in.

Here is the one run of flex duct that I extended and moved. It was actually extremely easy to do and only cost about $5 (not including tools).

Framing

Well we made some progress this weekend with the framing in the basement. Here are a few pictures

We ran into a few problems this weekend, so we didn't do as much as planned but Nick did get to do some plumbing work (he changed it so it went through the beam as opposed to around it) and he will have a chance to do some wiring at some point:

Here we have an issue in that the electrician who wired the house was too lazy to extend the phone, cable and power lines around the beam instead of going under them. We still need to figure out how to fix this issue.

Some Bathroom Pics

Well these are some pictures of the master and hall bathroom that we redid a few weeks ago. We tore up the vinyl and laid down travertine, painted and got new countertops for the master bath. We still need to get curtains and put some curtain rods up, but so far they look pretty good.
